Auckland Council is supporting the work by MPI on the invasive seaweed Caulerpa discovered in Aotea Great Barrier Island waters. Controls are in place to reduce it spreading. Biosecurity New Zealand has imposed legal controls on Blind Bay, Tryphena Harbour and Whangaparapara Harbour in the form of a Controlled Area Notice (CAN). Local mana whenua is supporting a dual response and have imposed a rāhui over the same areas.

Please be advised about the new legal restrictions on fishing and anchoring in some harbours at Great Barrier due to Caulerpa. You can find all the information here: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/biosecurity/major-pest-and-disease-threats/caulerpa-brachypus-a-non-native-seaweed/
