Recently completed, ongoing, and upcoming maintenance work
D and E pier pile sleeving
Contractors are progressing work on D, E and A piers, with pile sleeving carried out as vessel relocations allow. This work is tracking well, with around 70 piles remaining.
Gangway lighting
We’re continuing to explore options for low-level safety lighting on the marina gangways to improve night-time visibility. A trial installation has been completed, and we are currently assessing a more durable solution, designed to be installed under the handrails and direct light downwards. Installation remains planned for around mid-year, pending final testing and design.
Gate replacement
Replacement of the remaining galvanised steel gates at D, F, F1 and T piers is underway, with new glass sliding gates being installed to align with other marina access points. The D pier gate has recently been installed (pictured below), and work on F pier is underway. Installation at F and F1 piers is expected to be completed by the end of June. Timing for the T pier gate is yet to be finalised, and we will provide an update once confirmed.

Electrical replacement
The older electrical distribution boards on the northern side of the marina are scheduled to be replaced this year. New stainless-steel enclosures and modern equipment will support safe and reliable power across the marina. Fabrication of new cabinets is underway, with installation expected to begin in late April 2026.
S pier power replacement
A new main power cable will be installed on S pier in late April, bringing the pier up to current standards. This work will require a temporary power outage for S and S1 piers of approximately three days. Affected berth holders have been contacted directly with further information. S / S1 pier berth holders: if your vessel is running any systems sensitive to power interruptions, we recommend checking onboard systems once power is restored to ensure everything is operating normally.
New mobile safety ladders
Larger mobile safety ladders (pictured below) will be installed at the start of each pier to support emergency response in the event of someone falling into the water. These ladders are more stable and extend deeper than the existing (smaller) mobile safety ladders located at the safety stations on each pier. The new ladders provide improved access and safety during use.

Timber boardwalk maintenance update
The Auckland Council funded work on the timber boardwalk decking is nearing completion, with oiling now finished across all areas except the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron deck.
Contractors are currently carrying out targeted replacement of selected timber boards where required, addressing areas affected by wear and deterioration.
The overall refurbishment programme is now expected to be completed by the end of April, weather dependent. We appreciate your continued cooperation as this work wraps up and enhances Westhaven’s shared waterfront spaces.
