Fukuoka City delegation visits our marinas

We were delighted to welcome a delegation from Auckland’s sister city, Fukuoka City in Japan, to Westhaven Marina, Auckland Central Marina and Silo Marina recently.

The visit provided an opportunity to share how Auckland Council’s marinas operate as more than boat harbours. They are integrated waterfront destinations that contribute to public life, pedestrian connections, waterfront activity and the relationship between the harbour and the city.

During their visit, the delegation explored our marina operations and facilities, as well as the role of yacht clubs and boating communities. They also experienced the different roles each marina plays within Auckland’s waterfront – from Westhaven Marina’s connection to the city’s recreational boating community, to Auckland Central Marina’s integration with the heart of the city, and Silo Marina’s role in supporting Auckland’s superyacht sector.

The Fukuoka City delegation was impressed by the passion Aucklanders have for their marinas and how these spaces have become places to be cherished and enjoyed by many. They said the visit provided an important opportunity to consider the future development of Fukuoka City’s marinas.

We’re proud to share Auckland’s marina story and look forward to continuing the exchange of ideas and experiences with our friends in Fukuoka as we both look to the future of our waterfronts.
