Westhaven Marine Village

This development is part of the 2013 Westhaven Plan, and provides affordable, purpose-built accommodation for marine businesses such as chandlers, brokerages, and other specialist services. A food and beverage offering is also proposed.

Overview

The Marine Village entails 2,000 square metres of space and will house 13 businesses across two separate buildings, linked by a canopy. As part of a wider solution it will ensure the marine industry has a home in Auckland city, and further enhance Westhaven as a world class facility and the largest marina in the southern hemisphere.

The building’s design celebrates the area’s industrial marine heritage where marina users and visitors can stop and rest, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the great views over the marina and back to the city skyline.

The Westhaven Marine Village is project 6 in the Westhaven Plan, which was released in draft form in 2013 and widely consulted on amongst the Westhaven community.

Environmental Performance

Panuku is implementing measures now to enable a Greenstar performance certification. The design integrates the following sustainability elements:

  • Installation of a water tanks for rainwater harvesting and reuse
  • Where possible, materials with sustainability ratings have been selected
  • Bike racks and end of trip facilities have been included. EV stations are also proposed
  • Exterior lighting design is based on Greenstar Performance
  • All west facing glazing is shaded, reducing the need for air conditioning
  • The roof structure has been future-proofed to allow for the installation of PV and space has been allowed in the switchboard.
