Westhaven News - December 2021

A message from the Marina Management team

Dear Westhaven Boaties,

Thanks for your patience and understanding, especially over the last 12 months with various alert level settings, developments, dredging and relocations. The team at Westhaven Marina appreciates your tolerance as we continuously work to improve Westhaven.

We regret that in 2021 we have not been able to facilitate a forum to provide updates on our progress and what we have planned. A forum will be scheduled in 2022 when the Covid Protection Framework allows us to facilitate a meeting in person with you all.

Looking back over the year, we are pleased to have completed the dredging of 30,000 cubic meters across the marina and added two new piers - AA and AB, with 86 new berths that are now part of the Existing Marina Trust. A special thanks to our boaties on A and B pier for your cooperation during this protracted development period, it has been much appreciated.

The completion of the award-winning Promenade stage 2 has added to one of the most popular walkways in Tāmaki Makaurau, and has made our world class marina a destination for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to everyone on that side of the marina for your tolerance. We know the disruptions for some of our marina tenants were frustrating and the long walks to your boats were annoying, but we hope you can now appreciate the improvements made to the area such as the new infrastructure, carpark surfacing and raingardens that improve water quality.

The Marine Village has made it very convenient to access chandlery items for DIY and contractors and we are pleased to have the building now complete and fully occupied. We know the quality of the tenants is appreciated by the majority of boaties.

Maintenance is ongoing with pilings and pontoons, and we want to say a big thank you to all those customers that have been tolerant as we shift them here and there while our maintenance team keep the marina in tip top condition.

Our customer service and dockmaster teams have been busy as we constantly communicated the changed pier access and blocked fairways. They have been active during the various alert levels to ensure service and security is maintained and that your vessels were checked when you could not visit the marina. All our staff on site are fully vaccinated and cleaning protocols are in place across the marina.

Our charter boats at Z pier have had a very tough time and if you have any opportunity to promote the fishing charters or party boat options to your friends, family, or your business associates, it would be appreciated. All the details are on our new easy to navigate website www.westhaven.co.nz

Merry Christmas all and have a safe time on the water this summer.

Ngā mihi

Kevin, Karenza and the Westhaven Marina Team

Important message from Biosecurity team

Auckland Council is supporting the work by MPI on the invasive seaweed Caulerpa discovered in Aotea Great Barrier Island waters. Controls are in place to reduce it spreading. Biosecurity New Zealand has imposed legal controls on Blind Bay, Tryphena Harbour and Whangaparapara Harbour in the form of a Controlled Area Notice (CAN). Local mana whenua are supporting a dual response and have imposed a rāhui over the same areas. Please be advised about the new legal restrictions on fishing and anchoring in some harbours at Great Barrier due to Caulerpa. You can find all the information here

Westhaven Marina's new website

New year, new website! After receiving your feedback in our previous customer surveys about the website and how we could improve it, we have been working hard to launch the new site in time for 2022. It is now live, and it has never been more convenient to navigate the website to find the information you need. You can send a request, search for contractors, receive alerts, and even check out the weather at Westhaven!

Parking

Please remember if you are taking guests out over the summer period, they need to park in the WHITE spaces, and their registrations need to be loaded onto your guest allocation through the parking system permits.westhaven.co.nz  Also, a reminder that if you are bringing in different vehicles you need to switch your yellow space registration around so you do not get an infringement.

The northern side of the marina is under increased pressure for parking with the opening of AA pier, we are getting some temporary seal across part of the reclamation area, and this will be opened for overflow parking during the summer.

Customer Service Christmas opening hours

The customer service team will be working over the Christmas period in the Westhaven Marina Customer Service Office in the Marine Village. The Customer Service office will be closed for the weekends and statutory holidays.

As usual our dockmasters and security staff are on site 24/7 throughout the whole Christmas period, they can be contacted on 0800 MARINAS. Our friendly dockmasters are fully equipped to help you out with all your queries.

For any customer service queries, the team will be available during the opening hours via email info@westhaven.co.nz or by phone, 0800 MARINAS. Remember to check out our new website to lodge any queries online westhaven.co.nz

If you do need to come down to the marina office, please make sure you are wearing a mask and have your vaccine pass ready to be checked. Please note the marina office no longer accepts cash or cheques.

Marina staff training to keep customers safe

The marina staff undergo vast professional development and training during their time working at Westhaven. The team are all qualified in first aid response, and we have comprehensive medical kits and defibrillators in the marina. The most recent first aid course was undertaken by the team in November, run by Drowning Prevention Auckland, who did a tremendous job of making the emergency situations very realistic! Well done to all involved, and rest assured you are in great hands should you suffer an event in the marina.

EWOF reminder

Electrical compliance is the key! Look out for our new material around the marina to remind you of the electrical requirements for Westhaven. More information can be found here on our website. We are keen to remind our boat users to check the expiry date on their shore power leads and EWOF. When you get either of these updated, please remember to send the office a picture by emailing info@westhaven.co.nz If you have any questions regarding electrical compliance, please call us on 0800 MARINAS.

Auckland On Water Boat Show

After several setbacks in 2021, the Auckland On Water Boat Show is now planned to take place from 17 – 20 March 2022.  It will be hosted at a new venue in Wynyard Quarter, using the bases north of Silo Park, and expanding into Jellicoe Harbour. Eke Panuku will have a stand located within Pavilion 2 at stand 211. There will be information about upcoming projects taking place across the waterfront, and there will be an opportunity for you to provide feedback. We hope to see you there!
