Westhaven donates equipment to Abilities Group
As part of our ongoing efforts to replace outdated infrastructure and support sustainable practices, Westhaven Marina recently donated nearly 50 decommissioned security cameras, along with several servers and storage drives, to Abilities Group – a local non-profit recycling organisation that provides meaningful employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
This initiative reflects Westhaven Marina’s strong commitment to both sustainability and social responsibility. While the equipment had reached the end of its life for marina use, it still held value for e-waste recycling – and Abilities Group ensures this value is realised in a way that benefits both people and the planet. Their services help divert electronic and other waste from landfill, including paper, cardboard, and polystyrene, contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
Tragically, on 24 April 2025, a fire destroyed Abilities Group’s main operational building, including much of their essential equipment. This disaster significantly impacted their ability to continue their important work. As they focus on recovery and rebuilding, donations like ours are helping them move forward.
By working with Abilities Group, Westhaven Marina is proud to support an organisation that champions inclusion, reduces environmental impact, and strengthens the wellbeing of our wider community. To learn more about Abilities Group or support their efforts, visit abilities.co.nz.
