In celebration of a great year
2018 has been good to Westhaven. We have had a great twelve months, and we expect 2019 to be just as good.
Firstly and most importantly, I am very happy with our team. Thanks to a number of long term employees we have great depth of experience and skills, and those who have joined us more recently have hit the ground running to become knowledgeable about the marina and your expectations as our customers.
Westhaven is a very different place to what it was five years ago.
The park like surroundings and popular promenade is attracting families and visitors and thanks to a wide range of infrastructure improvements we also now have a much more resilient and sustainable marina. The occupancy of Westhaven is at record levels, and yacht club memberships have surged, proving that the activation strategy of recent times, not to mention the America’s Cup, really attracts new people to boating.
A benefit sometimes overlooked is that some of the recent projects delivered by Panuku have provided legacy improvements at no cost to boaters. We have seen this in particular with the upgrades of our pre-1960s water and sewage systems, CCTV and maintenance, the introduction of the fuel facility at Y Pier, and we will also see it soon with carpark and services upgrades associated with the build of the final section of the Westhaven Promenade.
With waiting lists and berth shortages front of mind, we are adding new berths by improving the use of water space throughout the marina. We are awaiting news on the resource consent for the pile mooring redevelopment project that will not only retain pile berth services, but also add more than 100 new serviced berths to the marina.
We continue to send you newsletters and keep our website and Facebook page up to date, but perhaps more importantly our staff make a big effort to stay up to date with the latest information in order to be able to convey it to you, and this goes a long way towards a positive relationship with you our customers.
Receiving international Blue Flag accreditation for the 13th year in a row, and winning the New Zealand Marina of the Year title was the icing on the cake for us this year.
We will hit the ground running in the new year and we can’t wait to report back again soon.
