Berths to receive new pedestals
Westhaven Marina is entering a marina-wide upgrade of power and water pedestals that are capable of providing and measuring the supply of electricity and water to each berth, and also housing pier lighting.
The first of the new pedestals will be installed on the new Y Pier during the month of November, and the next pedestals will arrive in October, to be installed through the summer period.
Benefits of the upgrade include:
The pedestals enable boat owners to pay fairly for their actual water and electricity consumption. Until now, owners have paid a rate that is based on an estimated average, calculated according to berth size, which has meant that low consumers have subsidized high consumers.
Lower OPEX fees when water and electricity are removed from Operating Expenses from 1 July 2015. (Note that a proportion will be charged for shared spaces such as piers and carparks)
Many of the existing pedestals are at or near the end of their useful life. By replacing all pedestals, we will have uniformity of product, which will be more economic and user friendly to manage and maintain over time.
Although the pedestals are being installed soon, berth holders won’t be charged on a user-pays basis for power and water until at least 1 July 2015. In the meantime, we will issue (with your invoice) regular readings from your berth’s meter. That way, so that you can get a picture of your consumption, and reduce it if necessary, or example, by turning off dehumidifiers and fridges/freezers or other appliances when not needed, the same way you would preserve electricity in your home.
Installation has commenced and berth holders will be notified by email and text, of any down time in power supply or pier access while the works are undertaken.
